Today, Orthodox Christians around the world mark Maundy Thursday. Starting from today, all the church services during three days will be dedicated to the remembrance of earthly suffering of Jesus Christ.

Maundy Thursday is dedicated to the remembrance of the Last Supper, at which the Savior washed the feet of His disciples, thus showing an example of brotherly love and humility.

On Maundy Thursday, monasteries traditionally begin preparations for Easter. It is believed that on this day it is necessary to get up before dawn and in the morning to clean the soul and the heart by prayers.

Orthodox Christians spend this day in Easter preparations. On Maundy Thursday, our ancestors used to perform the rite of washing. It was believed that contact with water will bring us strength and health for the entire year.

Women were traditionally engaged in cleaning the house, yard, garden from the dirt accumulated over the winter, and decorating the house.

In addition, from now on Orthodox Christians begin to paint eggs and bake Easter cakes.
