Isolated outstanding trade issues with the European Union should not be an obstacle to sign the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, first deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Arbuzov stressed.

The press service of the first deputy Premier reported that the prospects for creating a deep and comprehensive free trade area with the EU and the ways to harmonize the existing problems in trade between the parties were discussed at a meeting of the Ukrainian delegation led by Arbuzov and EU Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

The parties stressed their readiness to find together mutually acceptable solutions to resolve such problems, and also emphasized to the progress in the implementation of reforms, which are on the Ukraine-EU association agenda.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the issues of the preparation for the implementation of a deep and comprehensive free trade area with the EU.

“Other issues discussed during the meeting included the importance of providing a strong awareness campaign among the Ukrainian and European businesses concerning the actual operation of the FTA. Particular attention was paid to the steps of the Ukrainian government, aimed at improving the business climate,” the press service said.

Arbuzov invited the EU commissioner to visit Ukraine in the near future and the latter accepted the invitation.
