Operation at a loss of the Naftogaz of Ukraine is reasoned by the difference in price between the expensive Russian gas and the low gas tariff for heating utilities, vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuri Boiko said in an interview to Inter TV channel.
"Naftogaz" has always carried the significant social burden, as it is the only loss-making field of activity – gas is bought for $ 400 per contract with "Gazprom" and is sold for $150 to heating utilities. This difference is a burden on the Naftogaz," Boiko explained.
However, he noted that the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych ruled out raising gas tariffs for the population.
"Position of the President Viktor Yanukovych was firm: we can not shuffle off this slaving contract on the shoulders of the people. Therefore, Naftogaz stands today at the expense of other more profitable areas of activity - production and sale of gas, gas transit," vice Prime Minister added.
He stressed that the Naftogaz is the largest taxpayer, and the activity of the company is completely transparent.
"Naftogaz is the state-owned company, which pays the taxes in full. For the first quarter, the company paid about 6 billion UAH taxes," Boiko concluded.
