Establishment of a consortium to manage the Ukrainian gas transportation system can help keep the transit potential of Ukraine, vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuri Boiko said in interview with ZN.UA.

"If to analyze a necessity for consortium, then you first need to answer the question of whether the country needs transit location. We need it. First, there are 50 thousand people, who work in this area. There are also about $ 2.5 billion of revenue from transit for the country. Of course, it is to be saved. It is in our national interest," the vice Prime Minister stressed.

He noted that negotiations on establishment of a consortium will continue, until an option to meet the interests of Ukraine is found.

"The position of our President Viktor Yanukovych is any format should be fifty-fifty. We are not satisfied with the options in other countries, in Europe including. And we're looking for a version that would be consistent with our national interests. Therefore, negotiations are long and difficult," Boiko noted.

He added that Ukraine will insist on guaranteed volumes of gas to be pumped through the Ukrainian gas transportation system, as well as defining the role of Ukrainian management in the consortium management.
