The development of the Novokostiantynivske uranium ore deposit will help gradually increase production to the level of Ukraine's need for natural uranium and build a base for the further development of the domestic uranium mining industry, Ukrinform reports.
Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavytsky said this on Friday during his visit to the Novokostiantynivska coalmine of the state-owned Eastern Mining and Processing Plant in the village of Oleksiyivka, Kirovohrad region, the press service of the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Ministry reported.
"The possibilities and the necessary decisions are currently being worked out to ensure an increase in uranium production in the near future," the minister said.
He said that the Novokostiantynivske uranium ore deposit was a core component of the uranium industry in Ukraine. "The Novokostiantynivske field is crucial for the development of the nuclear power industry in Ukraine. In terms of uranium deposits, the Novokostiantynivske field is one of the largest in Europe and is among the ten largest uranium deposits in the world," Stavytsky said.
