By 2015, the total losses from the Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine will reach nearly $ 180 billion, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said during a working visit to the State Specialized Enterprise "Chernobyl NPP", ForUm correspondent reports.

"2218 villages and towns were contaminated by radiation due to the Chernobyl disaster. According to experts, the total economic losses of the disaster in 2015 will reach almost $ 180 billion. This amount is comparable to the annual GDP of our country," the President noted.

According to Yanukovych, question of the strategic development of the affected lands is extremely important. He added that there are some positive developments already.

"A program of revival of northern lands is effective in Kyiv region. Nearly 140 million UAH investments have been attracted to two districts of the region, seriously affected by the accident, and this is just the beginning," Yanukovych summed.
