Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych approved a strategy for combating terrorism.

A respective decree of April 25 was posted on the web site of the head of state.

The Cabinet of Ministers was given three months to draw up and approve an action plan to implement the strategy.

The decree comes into force from the date of publication.

According to the strategy for combating terrorism, Ukraine shares the concern of the international community due to such a global threat to humanity as the spread of terrorism. A number of external and internal factors in the country may serve as the reason for an increase in the level of terrorist threats.

It is planned to implement the strategy in 2013-2020 in the following areas: defining and analyzing the causes and conditions promoting the spread of terrorism, improving the legal and institutional framework for the fight against terrorism, improving the existing and developing and implementing new methods of combating terrorism, optimizing the ways and means of protecting human rights and freedoms, protecting society and the state from terrorist attacks, ensuring informational, scientific, personnel and logistics support for implementing the state policy in the field of combating terrorism, raising public awareness about the dangers and scale of terrorism, forming public opinion to promote the effective implementation of state policy in the field of combating terrorism, and developing international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
