The Friday morning fire in a psychiatric hospital in the Moscow Region has been extinguished, the press service of the Russian Interior Ministry’s (MVD) main department for the Moscow Region told Itar-Tass.

“According to specified information, at the moment when the fire broke out there were 38 people in the hospital located in the Ramensky settlement. Two managed to escape and the remaining 36 were killed,” the police said.

However, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM), there were 41 people in the hospital, including three medical workers.

According to the ministry, three have escaped: one medical worker and two patients.

Thus, the total number of the dead could reach 38 people.

A law enforcement source told Itar-Tass that the people practically had no chances to survive. “The fire started when they were asleep. Some of them tried to escape, but were poisoned by combustion products, and the building almost burnt down,” he said.
