Russian President Vladimir Putin says Ukraine's refusal to join the Customs Union may lead to de-industrialization of the individual sectors of the Ukrainian economy.
He recalled that, according to some Ukrainian experts, in the case of Ukraine's accession to the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space benefits will be calculated in a percentage of GDP.
"According to our estimates, it is 9-10 billion dollars a year," he said on air of the central TV channels and radio stations.
Putin stressed that Ukraine itself and its people should find their position on the issue.
According to him, we must not forget that the Ukrainian and Russian economy is connected with extensive cooperation, the rejection of which will lead to irreparable loss for the participants of this cooperation.
"If Russia is able to recover these losses somehow, for Ukraine it will be extremely difficult. I fear that this could lead to de-industrialization of some industries," Putin noted.
However, he stressed that Ukraine has to make its choice and Russia will respect any decision.
