Vaccination against challenging infectious diseases has to cover 95% of the population of Ukraine, healthcare minister of Ukraine Rayisa Bohatyriova told a press conference in Kyiv.
According to her, according to epidemiology, stable population immunity appears when the vaccine covers 95% of the population.
"Last year, we achieved coverage of 20%, in particular due to a decrease in prices. During 2013 it is planned to increase vaccination rates by 15-20% ... A country, which has a system of immunization, needs, first of all, the state program, financing, trained professionals, information support of immunization programs, laboratory capacity to ensure quality control of vaccines. In Ukraine, all these components are available," the minister said.
As Bohatyriova stressed, budget to fund immunization programs in Ukraine is enlarged annually.
