21 citizens of Ukraine, who wished to leave Syria, have been transported by a Russian Emergencies Ministry plane to Moscow, where they will return home by train.

In particular, the plane landed in the early hours of Thursday at Domodedovo Airport near Moscow, Ukrinform reported.

"The flight was made from the Syrian city of Latakia, and 21 citizens of Ukraine returned from Syria," an employee of the Ukrainian Embassy in Moscow said.

He said that all citizens of Ukraine had been transported by the vehicles of the Ukrainian Embassy in Moscow to the hotel of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission.

He noted that the Ukrainians would then be sent home by train. The Ukrainian Embassy in Moscow is covering costs on accommodation, food and travel to Ukraine.

"Thanks to the measures taken by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, more than 500 citizens of Ukraine who wished to leave the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic and return home have already been evacuated from this country. This work is currently continuing," he said.

In general, 104 people, including 76 Russians, 21 citizens of Ukraine, six citizens of Belarus and one citizen of Uzbekistan, wished to leave Syria.
