Almost all the territories of the third zone (voluntary evacuation zone) and the fourth zone (zone of increased radiological control) of Chernobyl are cleared of radioactive contamination, ecology and natural resources minister of Ukraine Oleh Proskuriakov told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.

"Over the past years from the date of the accident, natural processes and counter-measures to reduce environmental pollution have led to improvement of the radiological situation in the said area. As a result, 80-90% of the territory, relating to the contaminated zone, may be used without restriction in terms of the radiation factor and other protective measures," he said.

According to the minister, no decisions were taken on deprivation of areas of status of the "Chernobyl zone".

Meanwhile, the head of the Ukrainian State Agency for Management of the Exclusion Zone Volodymyr Kholosha added that significant inspections were carried out. As a result, it turned out that 80-90% of the above-mentioned areas can be used for economic purposes.

Kholosha named a very complicated procedure deprivation of settlement of the status of "radioactive contaminated”.

Minister Proskuriakov added that no one will narrow the Chernobyl zone to deprive citizens of the benefits.
