Fast demilitarization of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is unlikely to happen, deputy head of the Security Service of Ukraine Volodymyr Porodko told journalists, ForUm correspondent reports.
"SBU considers that it is normal practice when the state body functions within the civil structure. As of today, special services in many European countries work within the military or mixed structure. We are also ready to consider a prospect of transition to the civil structure," he said.
At the same time, the deputy head of the Security Service of Ukraine stressed that it will not occur fast.
"This issue involves a significant fiscal burden due to the dismissal of a large number of people from the military service, drawing-up of their severance pays and payment of pension provision," he explained.
Porodko stressed that this process should be gradual.
