The Culture Ministry will not allow construction in the buffer zone of the St. Sophia Cathedral, head of the Ministry Leonid Novokhatko told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports
He noted that the Kyiv authorities are planning to appeal against the court decision requiring the city council to sign an agreement to lease the buffer zone territory of Kyiv’s Saint Sophia Cathedral.
At the same time, according to the minister, if the court's decision remains in force, the construction in this area will be prohibited.
Novokhatko reported that the city council took the decision to lease the land in 2007 without obtaining any permission from the Culture Ministry.
