Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski and chairman of the National Joint Stock Company "Naftogaz of Ukraine" Yevhen Bakulin discussed issues of gas transit, modernization of the Ukrainian gas transportation system (GTS), the technical capacities to perform reverse gas supplies from the EU to Ukraine and optimize the use of Ukrainian gas storage facilities. This is stated in the message of the EU Delegation to Ukraine.
Bakulin and Tombinski met and discussed these issues in preparation for the high-level roundtable, scheduled for May 3 in Brussels (Belgium).
"Guarantees of gas supplies and transit, as well as prospects for the modernization of the Ukrainian gas transport system were discussed against the background of long-term cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the energy sector. In addition, the parties touched upon long-term and reliable operation of Ukrainian gas transportation system, Ukraine's implementation of the Energy Community requirements, technical capacities to implement the reverse supply of gas from the EU member states to Ukraine and optimize the use of Ukrainian gas storage facilities," the statement reads.
The parties stressed the importance of finding rational solutions, including on the potential tripartite consortium to manage the Ukrainian gas transportation system, as well as the need to implement measures to improve energy efficiency in the energy sector of Ukraine, in particular with regard to the GTS.
