There will be no pirated software in the public institutions of Ukraine till 2015, head of the State Service for Intellectual Property Mykola Kovynia told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.

"I hope that by 2015 there will be no piracy in the public sector," he said.

According to him, the estimated cost of switching of the public sector to the licensed software is 1.7 billion UAH. The state budget provides for only 100 million UAH for these purposes.
"This is a big burden and a serious challenge to our budget," he stressed and added that legalization of software in the Ukrainian public sector and in the country as a whole is the important direction of work of the State Service.

Kovynia also said that the State Service for Intellectual Property actively opposes illegal distribution of intellectual property rights on tangible media, such as pirated copies of audio and video products, counterfeit brands, etc.

According to him, in the first quarter of this year, more than 24 thousand units of counterfeit products worth about 956 thousand UAH were seized as a result of 177 inspections.

He denied the rumors of that the confiscated items returned to the market after seizure. "We regularly destroy confiscated products," Mykola Kovynia summed up.
