Ukrainian government expects that the application of Kyiv to participate in the Customs Union (CU) as observer will be accepted on May 29 at the meeting of the CU heads of state, government commissioner for cooperation with Russia, the CIS and EurAsEC Valery Muntiyan informed.

He said that Kyiv sent the draft memorandum of granting Ukraine the status of observer to the Customs Union members, including Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, last week. "The memorandum has two key points: status of Ukraine as an observer in the Customs Union, and the participation of our representatives in all the meetings of the Sustoms Union committees," Muntiyan noted.

According to him, the final decision is still pending, but "the Ukrainian version of the memorandum became the basis and is now in operation." "We hope that this decision will be taken on May 29 at the meeting of the CU heads of state. However, before draft has to be discussed by governments of the Union, passed to us, and in case we agree with its amended revisions, it has to be submitted to the Eurasian Economic Commission," the official specified.
