Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov is grateful to Polish PM Donald Tusk for the position on Russia’s construction of the Yamal – Europe-2 gas pipeline to supply gas to Europe.
"Yesterday I spoke with the Prime Minister of Poland, I congratulated him on his birthday. It was an occasion. I thanked him for the principled position taken on the Yamal - Europe 2pipeline," Azarov said at the meeting with foreign journalists.
The Prime Minister noted that this topic was discussed many times with his Polish colleague, and Tusk assured that Poland would never do anything against Ukraine.
"Do you realize how this position is important for us? Poland is a key country, through which Ukraine may be bypassed," Azarov stressed.
He recalled that Poland borders with Belarus and the Belarusian company "Beltransgaz" belongs to Russia (the Russian company "Gazprom"), which could easily allow constructing another pipeline to bypass Ukraine.
