Adoption of new Code of Criminal Procedure became an important step in the development of Ukraine as a state of law, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych stresses, ForUm learned from the President’s press service.
"This step confirms the desire of the Ukrainian society to break old patterns, introduce new regulations to modernize its law enforcement system and to change the standards of its activity," he said, speaking at the all-Ukrainian meeting of the prosecutors on the implementation of the requirements of the new Code of Criminal Procedure and priorities for their further reform.
Yanukovych noted that the adoption of the new Code of Criminal Procedure was one of Ukraine's commitments to the Council of Europe.
President is sure that the radical and systemic change, based on international experience and European standards, can make the transition from the prosecution to the adversarial model of criminal justice.
