The potential yield of winter crops has grown by 20%, director of Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center Mykola Kulbida told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.

"Winter crops are in good condition and we can evaluate the yield potential of 15-20% higher than in the previous year," he said.

According to Kulbida, winter crops have resumed growth almost in the entire territory of Ukraine. Crops are in poor condition only in Kherson, Zaporizhia, Dnepropetrovsk regions and in steppe Crimea.

"5 - 8% of crops are in poor condition. This is a very small figure as usually the average is about 10% in Ukraine," the official specified.

At the moment there is a problem with the spring crops in the north.

According to Kulbida, flooding of creeks and fields resulted in possible delay in sowing of spring crops (at least 15 days). Consequently, the next harvest in the region will decrease by 15-18%.

Kulbida informed that the Agriculture Ministry has recommended the farms to sow the ground corn in the fields, where is the maximum possible delay in spring planting, as it will give a good harvest in all weather conditions.
