The Central Election Commission of Ukraine (CEC) informed it had not been appealed to with initiative of a nationwide referendum.
"There have been no petitions to the CEC with request to conduct a referendum,” deputy chairman of the CEC Andriy Mahera said in interview.
"The charges of that the CEC prepares a referendum evokes irony. It's like to accuse of preparation for murder a person, who goes to the store to buy a kitchen knife".
Mahera noted that the CEC is actively passing the necessary regulations for the conduct of national referendum, but does so as part of its regular duties.
Deputy chairman also added that the documents are taken for an indefinite period.
