Ukraine plans to increase the volumes, produced by hydroelectric power plants (HPP), up to 15% of the total electricity generated in the country, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said during a visit to the Kyiv hydroelectric power station, ForUm correspondent reports.
"We want to cooperate with the World Bank to bring the level of electricity generated by hydroelectric power plants in the country up to about 15%. Thus, to have a normal balance between nuclear, thermal and hydroelectric power plants," the PM noted.
He also stressed that to date the government "has a great program for the development of domestic electricity."
According to Azarov, all the stations were mostly built several decades ago and now need modernization. "Ukraine has all the capabilities to carry it out. We have our own businesses, strong plants to produce all that is necessary for the modernization of stations. It will be implemented," Azarov assured.
