New gas pipeline bypassing Ukraine through Poland, the construction of which was initiated by the Russian authorities, will not be able to block reverse gas supplies from Europe due to the development of Ukrainian gas transport infrastructure, deputy minister of energy and coal industry of Ukraine Volodymyr Makukha said in Warsaw (Poland), where he took part in the energy conference.

He confirmed that this year, the Ukrainian authorities are planning to import from the EU countries about five billion cubic meters of gas, noting that the final predictions will be known after the approval of the country's gas balance for this year.

"As soon as it is approved, we will know the exact amount we can buy," Makukha said without naming possible terms.

The deputy minister added that the document will be approved together with the financial plan of the Naftogaz of Ukraine.

He also said that President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has become the first among Ukrainian officials who discussed the issue on building another bypassing pipeline and who spoke on this issue with President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski last Sunday.

"This talk took place, and this is very important," Makuha stressed.
