Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski believes that the signing of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU will not impair relations between Kyiv and Moscow, he said during a roundtable meeting "The Association Agreement. Terra Incognita?" in Kyiv on Thursday.

"The Association Agreement is not a negative tool, directed against cooperation with Russia or any other country... It can only improve relations with Russia, as clear rules of the game will be laid down and it will help relevant institutions to cooperate," the ambassador said, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

He said the institutions and the EU member states wanted there to be good relations between Ukraine and Russia.

According to Tombinski, the adoption of the EU standards and rules by Ukrainian producers will spur a similar process on the Russian market.

However, the accession to the Customs Union will not create the same effect for Ukrainian companies, the European diplomat said.

He added that the Association Agreement with the EU is designed to modernize Ukraine and make it a more competitive country.
