Ukraine actively cooperates with Japan and Spain under the Kyoto Protocol to implement innovative projects in the country, ecology and natural resources minister of Ukraine Oleh Proskuriakov told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to the official, this happens by selling quotas for greenhouse gas emissions with subsequent use of received funds to purchase modern energy efficient technologies and equipment. Thus, as of April 1, 536 projects on targeted "green" investments in 24 regions of Ukraine for a total amount of 3813.5 billion UAH were agreed with Japan. The expected effect from implementation of these projects is the annual reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 116.9 thousand tons in CO2 equivalent.

Most projects relate to the social sector and are aimed to reduce the consumption of fuel and energy resources and to improve the social and living conditions of the population, the minister specified.
