Border guards confiscate more smuggled weapon
The amount of weapon confiscated at Ukrainian borders grows, first deputy head of the State Frontier Service of Ukraine Pavlo Shysholin told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.
"The amount of weapon confiscated at Ukrainian frontiers, including checkpoints and 'green' borders, has increased by 33%," he said in particular.

According to Shysholin, the matter concerns both single units of firearms and big lots of various weapons. On March 27, 2013, for example, at Cracovets checkpoint, a Ukrainian citizen tried to smuggle in 11 guns. "I do not remember detaining such a big lot of guns for the past two years," Shysholin noted.

The official also informed that border guards often arrest special weapons, which could have been used for terrorist attacks.

In response to the question about the reasons of smuggling boom, Shysholin said there could be two reasons. "First one is that Ukraine is used as a transit territory - many firearms detained at the border were transported by Chechens. And the second reason is new technologies and trained dogs the frontier service did not have before."
