Climate has significantly changed in Ukraine over the past 25 years, vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Vilkul told a briefing in the Cabinet of Ministers, ForUm correspondent reports.

"Average annual temperature within the country has increased by two degrees, especially in the central and the northern regions. Number of natural disasters has nearly doubled since the mid 1980s. Number of extreme precipitations in the western, central and southern regions in summer significantly increased," Vilkul said.

According to the vice Prime Minister, 10-12 Ukrainian regions can be seized with disaster now, despite the fact that that was not observed 25 years ago.

"The climate is changing and we must be ready for new challenges. Plans of response and coordination of forces will be upgraded," he noted, adding that technical capacities of Hydrometereological Center should be strengthened in particular.
