Export needs to be developed to activate the Ukrainian economy, President Viktor Yanukovych said during the meeting of the Committee on Economic Reforms, ForUm correspondent reports.
"Frankly, we hoped that the economy will look much better in Europe and in the whole world. We see that the forecast of the World Bank has worsened since the beginning of the year and economic growth for this year is predicted at level of 3.4%, while economic growth in Europe is reduced by 0.5%. Of course, Ukraine's dependence on foreign markets is the main problem, which does not allow us to significantly increase exports," he said.
However, the President stressed that export enhances the development of the domestic economy.
"Since the demand in the domestic market has never been excessive, although for the second consecutive year we increase turnover due to increase in consumption by the population," the President stressed.
Yanukovych urged the foreign minister of Ukraine Leonid Kozhara to pay more attention to the economization of foreign policy and hold international economic exhibitions.
According to him, the Ukrainian regions are now ready to present themselves at such events.
"I am often asked why the governors often go abroad? I tell you that it is good if they would organize the work together with the Economy Ministry and the Foreign Ministry," Yanukovych said.
