Ukraine could annually import through Hungary five billion cubic meters of natural gas purchased on spot markets, Ukraine's energy and coal industry minister Eduard Stavytsky told journalists in Budapest on Thursday, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported.
"Now the technical capacity on gas supply from Hungary to Ukraine is at least 3-3.5 million cubic meters of gas per day. But after a month or two, the technical capacity will be at least 15 million cubic meters per day. This is no less than 5 billion cubic meters per year," Stavytsky emphasized. He also added that the current price of natural gas on spot markets is 380 USD per one thousand cubic meters.
According to the minister, natural gas will be supplied to Ukraine in the framework of the contract between the German RWE and NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.
Stavytsky noted that through Poland there is a possibility of supplying two billion cubic meters of gas in the reverse direction.
"We will buy natural gas where it is profitable for us," the minister stressed.
