The Healthcare Ministry considers the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) to be a powerful partner in conduct of medical reforms, health minister Rayisa Bohatyriova said during the general meeting on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of establishment of the NAMS of Ukraine, ForUm correspondent reports.
"The Health Ministry has always regarded the Academy as the scientific center of healthcare field," she said.
According to her, out of 134 members of the NAMS, 19 academicians and 53 corresponding members work in scientific and educational institutions of the Healthcare Ministry.
She stressed that the Ukrainian doctors perform unique operations in line with international standards, so now 20 thousand undergraduate and graduate students from 128 countries are studying medicine in Ukraine.
In turn, Vice Prime Minister Kostyantyn Hryshchenko advised the Academy to strengthen its role as the coordinator of healthcare researches.
According to him, the NAMS scientists need to focus on creating new drugs, the development of new and improvement of existing diagnostic tools.
"More attention should be paid to the development of effective methods for the prevention of such diseases as atherosclerosis, stroke, myocardial infarction, which provoke high mortality and disability of people, often in the working age," Hryshchenko said.
