Kyiv is under threat of flooding not due to the rise in water level in the river, but due to the snow melting, Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center Mykola Kulbida told a briefing today, ForUm correspondent reports.

"According to the expected water level rising, the housing estates and industrial sites of Kyiv are not under threat of flooding," the director said.

Kulbida said that according to the Hydrometeorological Center, the maximum rise of water in the capital will be 650-710 mm above the conventional zero provided that Kanev and Kyiv water storages are maximally filled.

He added that the efforts should be applied to clean urban waterways and remove melt water.

In addition, Mykola Kulbida recalled that warm spell is expected in the capital on March 30. Snow slush, later followed by rain, is also expected. "The highest temperature in the coming period will be on April 1 - up to +10 °. However, on April 2 it drops to +2-4 °. On April 4-5 the temperature will reach +6 °. Temperature of +10 ° and above can be expected starting from April 8," he stressed.
