Kyiv has already started to prepare for spring floods.
As the Kyiv City State Administration press service informs, head of the KCSA Oleksandr Popov held a meeting with members of the City staff for emergencies, to work out an action plan to prepare for spring flooding.
Popov instructed to set up task forces in each district and appointed the officials, responsible for coordination of actions during the flood. The primary task of these groups is to explore all the areas, which could be flooded, the buildings and building surrounding grounds, to warn residents and clarify on the algorithm of actions in case of flooding. It was also instructed to check the status of drain systems and river beds.
The head of the KCSA instructed to direct all forces at removing snow from public transport stops and intersections to prevent flooding during snowmelt. A special commission will examine tramways for the safe flood discharge. A separate action plan is implemented by the Kyiv Metro as well.
During the meeting it was also discussed the issue of possible traffic restrictions in case of flooding. Thus, the authorities urge residents not drive on the streets by their own vehicles. If necessary, some streets will be blocked up.
