Ukraine is working on the implementation of commitments to the Council of Europe and is set to further implementation of the Action Plan, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said during the meeting with President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Mr. Jean-Claude Mignon, ForUm learned from the President’s press service.

One of the important steps, recently been made by Ukraine in this direction, in particular in the development of democratic institutions, Yanukovych called the adoption and entry into force of the new Code of Criminal Procedure. Now we are working on its implementation, the President noted.

Yanukovych has congratulated the PACE President on re-election to the post at the beginning of this year.

In turn, Jean-Claude Mignon said that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is set to partnership with Ukraine as a part of the Action Plan and in respect of the obligations of our state to the PACE.

"We should help each other. I would like to say that you have obligations to the Council of Europe, but we also have commitments to each member of the Council of Europe," he stressed.

PACE President praised the steps taken by Ukraine "to the movement for democracy."

In addition, he expressed his understanding that the implementation of all the set tasks needs more time. "We fully understand that you need more time to fully meet the requirements and to implement the commitments taken," Mignon said.
