Ukraine and Russia continue seeking a mutually acceptable solution for the establishment of a consortium to manage the Ukrainian gas transportation system (GTS), Ambassador of Ukraine to Russia Volodymyr Yelchenko said in interview.

"In this context, we are looking for a mutually acceptable solution on the organizational form of a joint venture (consortium), which, on the one hand, would provide the implementation of the economic interests of the parties in the most effective way, and on the other – would meet the requirements of the national laws and international obligations", he informed.

According to the Ambassador, the parties are trying to find a compromise, a balanced solution that would allow to ensure the access to the economically justified level of gas prices, and to determine the optimal model that provides reliable transit of Russian natural gas to European customers through Ukraine.

"We realize that first the parties should agree on the guaranteed volumes of gas to be transported to Europe through the Ukraine's GTS, and the scope of bilateral obligations," Yelchenko stressed.

The diplomat expressed confidence that in case of reaching agreement with Russia in the gas sector, Ukraine will receive gas at a fair price, and the European consumers will have guarantees of uninterrupted supply of Russian gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
