Lucescu remains with Shakhtar for two more years

Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu will stay at FC Shakhtar Donetsk for another two years, the club's press office declared on Monday.

“On Monday, at the Donbass Arena, there was a working meeting between the President of FC Shakhtar Rinat Akhmetov and the head coach Mircea Lucescu, which resulted in signing a new contract with the team coach,” the statement said, UKRINFORM reports.

Rinat Akhmetov commented on this event to the club website correspondent as follows: “When we talked about the contract, money was not in question at all. Because this is not important either for me or for Mr. Lucescu. I was interested in only one major thing: did this team reach their maximum or it can make a step forward? Mister replied to it simply: I love our fans. I love our players. I believe in my assistants. I am convinced that together with the club, by joining our efforts, we are able to conquer new heights. The new contract with Mircea Lucescu has been signed for 2 years.”
