Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych believes that one day there will be a constructive opposition and an effective government in our country, he said during a meeting of the Council of Regions in Kyiv on Thursday, ForUm correspondent reports.

"Today, the main thing is not a struggle for power, but a need to save the country from the global crisis. The political forces of other countries come together to solve problems, and I believe that one day Ukraine will have a constructive opposition and an effective government," Yanukovych said.

He noted that today the relationship between the legislative and executive branches is broken in Ukraine. "Unfortunately, the Parliament has not worked for four months. There are various reasons for this, but I do not want to be a judge. However, the state will certainly develop, and we will have the mechanisms to improve the economy and people's lives if only two branches of government work harmoniously together. Unfortunately, this chain is broken," he said.

According to Yanukovych, representatives of all political forces were invited to participate in the meeting of the Council of Regions, but there were no representatives of the opposition at the meeting. "This fact shows the indifference to the problems of our country, and our calls for constructive work were not heard," he said.

Yanukovych also said that the government and the opposition must take responsibility for the current situation in Ukraine.
