Since the beginning of epidemic season 4.5 million people have got sick with influenza and ARVI in Ukraine, head of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service, chief medical officer Anatoly Ponomarenko told a briefing at the Cabinet of Ministers, ForUm correspondent reports.
"As of today, the 12th week of monitoring the epidemiological situation of this year has been almost completed. Therefore, we have certain results. According to the analysis of data from health-care institutions in Ukraine, since the beginning of epidemic season, that is from October 1, 2012, about 4.5 million people have got sick with influenza and ARVI, 66% of them are children," the expert said.
In his view, these data show a stable, controlled and manageable epidemiological process. "The highest incidence rate was registered in Kyiv - 106 per 10 thousand people, and the lowest - in the Kharkiv region - 24.3 per 10 thousand," Ponomarenko noted.
In addition, he stressed that the total number of vaccinated persons against influenza amounts to 322 thousand 624, which is 0.7% of the population of Ukraine.
