In February, Ukraine reduced its purchases of Russian gas, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov told a news conference, ForUm correspondent reports.

"I think it's easy to guess why the size of payments was reduced. This could not happen in December because it was not known what January weather would be. The winter was very difficult, but not as frosty as in previous years. Therefore, we realized that we could spent less on gas consumption," Azarov said.

According to him, Ukraine has enough gas reserves, which can be used if necessary. "We can safely use some gas from our stock," Azarov summed up.
