In 2012, eight thousand animals were sterilized in Ukraine, project manager of the FOUR PAWS international charity organization in Ukraine (Austria) Dr. Amir Khalil told a press conference "Animal protection from abuse: life or death?", ForUm correspondent reports.

"In 2012, the FOUR PAWS international charity organization together with the Environment Ministry and urban animal protection organizations sterilized eight thousand animals in Ukraine. We also rescued six brown bears from the abnormal conditions of their detention and transported them to the Synevir National Park," he said.

Dr. Khalil added that as of today, there are 44 proposals from Ukrainian cities for the implementation of this program.

In turn, project coordinator of the European Association for Animal and Nature Protection ETN EV (Germany) Polina Belitser noted that the organization will start working in Zaporizhya, Stakhaniv and Dnepropetrovsk this year. In 2012, they worked under agreement with the city administrations of Kyiv, Donetsk and Luhansk.

Two animal protectors noted that the only correct and humane way to reduce the number of stray animals is the catch-neuter-release project (CNR). "It's a long way, but the only correct, of course, if it is executed in conjunction with the relevant legislation," Belitser summed up.
