Ukraine is interested in the further development and deepening mutually beneficial dialogue with Latvia on all issues of mutual interest, speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak said during the meeting with the President of Latvia Mr. Andris Berzins.

"We appreciate the current level of bilateral cooperation with Latvia, the trustworthy and constructive nature of our partnership. Ukrainian-Latvian relations are traditionally characterized by atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding. We are interested in the further development and deepening mutually beneficial dialogue with Latvia on all issues of mutual interest," Rybak said.

He noted that it is difficult to imagine development of bilateral interstate relations without interparliamentary component. The Ukrainian Parliament speaker called for strengthening partnerships between the legislative bodies of both countries.

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada confirmed interest in developing cooperation between the heads of the Parliaments. "In this context we will welcome speaker of the Latvian Parliament, Mrs. Aboltina, on an official visit in Ukraine," he said.

According to Rybak, a special role should be given to cooperation between the committees and parliamentary groups of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Latvian Saeima, which should become a "reliable mechanism to step up inter-parliamentary dialogue".
