Ukraine will reduce purchases of Russian gas, if it does not become cheaper, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych told a joint press conference with the President of Latvia, the press service of the head of state reports.

"We have had a big problem for three years, on which we are working and can not yet answer the question why Ukraine has the highest price for gas in Europe. Of course, if it does not become cheaper, we will reduce the volume of Russian gas supplies to Ukraine and will find alternative sources," he said.

Yanukovych stressed that the current price for Russian gas is unacceptable for Ukraine. "Our economy cannot withstand such price. The main goal of the work we are carrying out is to have real, fair and market price," he stressed.
