Ukraine's European integration is primarily a deep modernization of all spheres of life in our state, President Viktor Yanukovych said at a joint news conference with President of Latvia Andris Berzins after bilateral talks, ForUm learned from the press service of the President.

"I would like to emphasize that the issue of European integration for Ukraine is the issue of modernization of the country, which covers all areas of life. This is the transition of the country to the European standards both technical and legal, democratic standards," he said.

Yanukovych expressed confidence that European integration will facilitate the development of trade and economic cooperation with the EU. "With the signing of the agreement on the establishment of a free trade area, our trade relations, I am sure, will be more active. There will be lifted restrictions, which exist today for Ukrainian goods in European countries," the President said.

According to him, Ukraine associates European integration process "with the improvement of the Ukrainian economy, approaching of our country to the European standards." "First of all, this is our home task, and we are confidently following this path," Yanukovych noted.
