Latvia supports and is ready to help Ukraine on the way to the European integration, President of Latvia Andris Berzins said during a meeting with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych in Kyiv.
He noted that Ukraine is an important partner for Latvia, and his country fully supports the aspirations of Ukraine regarding joining the EU.
Berzins expressed readiness not only to give advice, but to help adapt the Ukrainian legislation to the European standards.
In turn, Yanukovych called this year decisive for Ukraine's integration into the European Union.
He expressed hope that Ukraine will be able to sign with the EU an Association Agreement and a free trade area in Vilnius this year.
