Prime Minister Mykola Azarov is unhappy that Ukrainian media did not pay attention to the 150th anniversary of the first President of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Vernadsky, he said, opening a meeting of the government, ForUm correspondent reports.

"Yesterday Ukraine celebrated the 150th anniversary of Vladimir Vernadsky. Participants of the solemn meeting of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, the elite of the Ukrainian science, noted that even today the personality of Vernadsky raises the prestige of Ukraine. Ukraine occupies the 25th place among science and engineering countries. This is evidence that Ukraine can and should be successful. So I'm just surprised that most of the national TV channels and newspapers did not pay attention to such an extraordinary event as the anniversary of Vernadsky, which is celebrated at the state level," Azarov said.

The Prime Minister suggested that perhaps this event remained unnoticed because of other events. But, in his opinion, the channels still show the same "scandal, scepticism and pettiness."

"We all need to think about how to stop the escalation of negative moods that hampers the development of our state," the head of the government stressed.
