Kyiv citizens live five years less than Europeans, head of the KCSA healthcare department Vitaly Mokhorev said, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to Mokhorev, over the last five years the life span of Kyiv citizens has increased by 2 years and 7 months and now makes up 74.2 years.

"For comparison and fairness it should be noted that the duration of life in the EU is 79 years. That is theoretically, Kyiv residents live 5 years less than Europeans, but 3.5 years more than people in the rest of Ukraine," he said.

One of the tasks set by the government and provided in the Kyiv Development Strategy till 2014 is increase in life expectancy to 79 years.

"This is a task on which we have to work on, including our physicians," Mokhorev said.
