Residents of Kyiv region should not worry because of the possible dam bursting at the Kyiv HPP, head of Kyiv Regional State Administration Anatoly Prysiazhniuk told a briefing after the meeting on flood prevention under the chairmanship of the President Viktor Yanukovych, ForUm correspondent reports.

"The rumors go that the dam will not sustain and that the level of the Kyiv Sea is such that it will flood Kyiv and Kyiv region. I would like to state that the necessary engineering and technical works were performed to strengthen the dam, and today its state is even better than it was 20 year ago," the governor assured.

As for the level of water in the Kyiv reservoir, he said that the Kyiv Sea today is 80% full and remains under control of the relevant services. "There no reason to expect a large flow of water, as everything is under control," Prysiazhniuk said.

He added that the water discharge was made in the Kaniv reservoir and that the water level in the river and the technical level of hydraulic structure are in good condition.

However, officials informed that agricultural lands, cellars and wells in ten districts of Kyiv region are flooded with surface water, and today this problem is solved together with the State Emergency Service.
