The sale of 1.300 out of 9.400 foreign medications registered in the country is banned in Ukraine, chair of the State Service for Drugs Oleksiy Solovyov said at the meeting with the importers, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to him, it happened after the introduction of GMP standards - international requirements for drugs. The standards have been effective in more than 100 countries for over 40 years.

Solovyov said that many of the illegitimate drugs were not imported for two years already, and a patient has not felt their absence in the market. "GMP will not cause the deficit in any case. Those companies, which have not yet confirmed its production according to GMP, make exclusively generics, which have dozens of analogues registered in Ukraine. For example, we have more than 40 trade names of some popular antibiotics, or 137 brands of drugs with diclofenac as the main active ingredient. We believe that the disappearance of several diclofenacs won’t be felt," the pharmacist said.

He reminded that Ukraine has a powerful pharmaceutical industry, producing most of the generic medicines of high quality and at affordable price.
