Azarov: Licenses for import of medicines hold prices

As of today, all applications for import licenses of drugs were considered and satisfied, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said at a meeting with importers, ForUm correspondent reports. According to him, it is about 80 applications.

Azarov said that only one thousand out of eight thousand names of foreign medicines registered in Ukraine have their representatives here. "And licensing will help eliminate unscrupulous intermediaries. It stipulates direct relationships with a manufacturer that is an authorized person of the manufacturer and an authorized person in Ukraine. And they both need to ensure quality, efficacy and product safety," the head of the Cabinet said.

According to him, "in terms of licensing none of foreign manufacturer trusts his medicinal product to an intermediary, who does not provide adequate storage conditions and delivery. This means that the number of intermediaries will decrease, and this will influence the price."
