There will be no flu epidemic this season in Ukraine, head of the department of the Institute for Epidemiology and Infectious Disease of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, director of the laboratory for influenza Alla Myronenko told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to her, morbidity rate has increased by only 1% compared to last week.
"Lviv and Simferopol approach to epidemic threshold level. In the capital, there is still as much as 15% to this point. Having the level of 102 persons per 10 thousand people in the period from 25/02 to 03/03, about 87 people fell ill. Last week, the level of epidemic threshold was exceeded only in Luhansk and Kirovohrad," the doctor said.

Myronenko stressed that according to official statistics, 62.5 thousand Ukrainians have visited doctors in 10 control cities during this epidemiological season.

She also stressed that most patients do not seek professional medical help. "Mostly, little children aged 1 to 4 years fall ill, then go the children of 5-9 years, then of 10-15 years. Adults are least likely to seek treatment," the expert said.

Myronenko noted that the most common type of influenza is a pandemic. "It affects 60% of population at the peak of disease." "Two men aged 77 and 41 years in Kyiv and three year old girl from Lviv region died from pandemic flu. There is aso one unconfirmed case when pandemic flu killed a child with human immunodeficiency virus," she summed up.
