Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said that there are no talks on Ukraine’s immediate joining the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan as this question still has to be discussed thoroughly. He said this before the talks with his Russian colleague Vladimir Putin.

Speaking about Ukraine's cooperation with the Customs Union, Yanukovych said that Ukraine is now discussing the issue with Russia. "Russia plays a key role in the Customs Union. Currently, we are discussing this issue with Russia. This issue is also discussed at the meetings with representatives of Kazakhstan and Belarus," he said.

"I have spoken publicly about Ukraine's interest to consider in detail all the effective documents in the Customs Union," Yanukovych said.

At the same time, the President acknowledged that losses in the economic cooperation between Ukraine and the countries of the Customs Union are associated with poor development of integration into the Customs Union.

"Ukraine is lagging far behind the Customs Union in terms of the creation of the legal framework. In fact Ukraine has not currently approved any document of the Customs Union. Today, this issue is mainly discussed at the political level. We need to consider the format of Ukraine's participation in the Customs Union and negotiate," he stressed.

Yanukovych noted that Ukrainian experts have different points of view regarding Ukraine's accession to the Customs Union.
